Too Much Candy? Here Are Yummy Ways To Use It!
Let’s face it: Halloween, Valentine’s Day, birthdays, and other holidays often leave us with fun family memories – and too many leftover treats. Before you toss all those extras, consider these fun options for leftover treats.
Freeze The Extras
In a resealable, freezer-safe plastic bag, most prepackaged candy can simply be stored in the freezer for future use. Make sure to label each bag, and consider separating based on type – chocolate in one bag, for example. To store baked goods, wrap tightly in aluminum foil first, then store inside a resealable, freezer-safe plastic bag. Label clearly; most baked goods will keep in a freezer for several months.
Bake A Surprise
Packaged candy can make a fun, unexpected addition to homemade baked goods. Use chopped-up candy bars in place of chocolate chips for cookies, for example. Or create a mix-and-match surprise by throwing in a chopped-up, bite-size mixture of whatever’s on hand.
Have A Sundae Or Popcorn Bar
Separate your leftover treats by type and stash in resealable plastic bags. Keep them to use as toppings for a special occasion (or even just a Friday night) ice cream sundae bar or as mix-ins for popcorn (and movies).
Decorate A Cake
Out of the wrappers, candy offers an elegant flourish to an everyday or special occasion cake. Place in ribbons or stacks on top of frosting; create patterns or add colors, too.
Make Crafts
Not all candy has to be eaten to be enjoyed. Preschool and elementary children can use glue-ready versions such as jelly beans or hard candies as accents to artwork.
