2 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 cup shortening
1 cup firmly packed brown sugar
1 cup white sugar
1 cup peanut butter
2 tablespoons water
1 teaspoon vanilla
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
Sift flour, salt and baking soda together – set aside.
Cream together shortening, brown sugar and white sugar until blended well.
Add peanut butter, eggs, water and vanilla.
Add flour mixture to creamed mixture. Form dough into walnut-sized balls. Roll in white sugar (optional).
Place on cookie sheet and flatten cookie ball with a fork in a criss-cross pattern.
Bake for about 10 minutes or until a touch of browning just appears.
